Dataquest’s learning content is broken into (in order of largest to smallest) paths, parts, courses, lessons, steps, and guided projects.

Paths

There are two types of paths, Career and Skill. The only difference in these is that the career paths are longer and cover a range of skills you will likely need for that role. In contrast, a skill path is a grouping of courses that teach a comprehensive skill.

Parts

Paths are typically broken into parts. The parts are a grouping of courses that cover a specific skill.

Course

A course is a group of lessons to teach a targetted topic. Many skills require several courses to cover all of the relevant material.

Lesson

Lessons are parts of a course. These are typically made up of 6 to 10 steps. This is a way to group content efficiently and help you track progress.

Step

Each screen inside a lesson is called a step.

Guided Project

Most courses end with a guided project. This is a great way for you to apply the skills you've just learned in a real-world scenario. Completing projects is a great way to improve your retention and discover areas where you may need to increase your understanding.
