Troubleshooting: Connection Issues

  • Last updated on October 26, 2024 at 8:21 AM
Our platform performs best with a stable internet connection. Unstable internet connections can cause performance issues in our code runners, answer-checking systems, and app displays.

Most issues students experience can be resolved by following the steps below:

  1. Whitelisting Dataquest in your Ad Blocker
    • Although we don’t have ads, we use Google Analytics and other services to analyze and optimize our platform. Ad Blockers sometimes block these services, which can cause some random side effects, including connection issues.
  2. Whitelisting Dataquest for Web Socket connections with Proxy Servers
    • Some corporate networks block Web Socket connections because they use proxies to filter your internet access. Our platform heavily relies on Web Socket connections to provide you with our learning environment.

If you use a corporate network, please contact your IT admin and ask them to whitelist our website. You may need to provide them with the following details:
      1. hostname: app.dataquest.io
      2. ip: 0.0.0.0
      3. subnet mask: /0
      4. protocol: wss
      5. port: 443
  3. Turning off your VPN
    1. Some internet connections may become unstable due to the VPN. Please try turning off your VPN to see if that resolves the issue.
  4. Trying another internet connection
    • Networks with insufficient signal strength (e.g., mobile) can cause connectivity issues. Please try to connect through a stronger signal (e.g., ethernet cord or WiFi) or another internet connection and refresh the page.

If the issue persists through multiple internet connections, please follow these steps to troubleshoot your browser.
